Measuring guide

Measure the door, not the hole

You need a tape measure, a pencil and ten minutes. Everything is in millimetres. If your tape only shows centimetres, multiply by ten.

Print the sheet

A one-page table to fill in by hand as you go round the kitchen, then type the numbers in later.

Doors

  1. Take the door off if you can. Two screws on each hinge. If not, measure it on the cupboard.
  2. Width: across the face, edge to edge.
  3. Height: top edge to bottom edge.
  4. Hinges: we drill them in the standard place for the height, about 100mm in from each end. If yours are somewhere odd, tell us on the confirmation sheet.
  5. Note which side the hinges are on when you look at it from the front.

Drawer fronts

  1. Measure each front on its own. The top one is usually shorter than the ones below.
  2. Width is the same for every front in a stack, so measure it once.
  3. Height of each front, top to bottom. Don't include the gap between them.
  4. Count how many fronts are in the stack and write them top to bottom.
Length, in metresheight

Plinth, pelmet, cornice

  1. Run the tape along the whole length, wall to end. Add each run together if there's a corner.
  2. Write it in metres, rounded up to the next 0.1.
  3. Plinth height: floor to the bottom of the doors. Nearly always 100 or 150mm.
  4. Up to the ceiling? Measure the gap from the top of the wall cupboards to the ceiling at both ends and in the middle, and give us the biggest. We add 20mm so it can be scribed to the ceiling.
  5. Pelmets and cornices come flat or moulded. See every profile, or send a photo and we'll match what you have.
Measure twice

Then measure a third door and see if it matches the first. Most kitchens use only three or four sizes.

Odd numbers are normal

Doors are usually 3 or 4mm smaller than the cupboard. 397, 497, 597 are all common. Write what the tape says.

Photos help

One straight-on photo per wall. We use them to check your list before we cut anything.

Still not sure?

Post us one old door and we'll copy it exactly, hinge holes and all. We send it back with the new ones.
